About the Book
Family History for Kids, the first in-depth children’s book dedicated to genealogy, is written by Camden-based genealogist Emma Jolly and provides a much-needed introduction to the subject for today’s children.
Designed to align with elements of the National Curriculum and published to coincide with the National Year of Reading, the book is aimed at 8 to 13 year olds and provides children with historical facts and research methods along with fun project ideas to help bring their family history to life.
Looking at the basics of genealogy, it shows children simple, practical and inexpensive methods to help them begin to investigate their family tree and discover more about the way their ancestors lived.
Children are able to work through subject areas including:
• Analysing surnames and interviewing family members;
• Looking at family documents and photographs;
• Immigration, social class and women’s history;
• Visiting archives and using other sources.
Family History for Kids also includes a detailed glossary, project sheets, a four-generation family tree chart and a guide to further resources.
