Joseph Strong was a US army doctor who became a leading Philadelphia physician - he was related to Nathan Hale. One of the Princess Diana's great-grandfathers was an Irish peer who married the daughter of millionaire Wall Street broker Frank Work. Through this link, Princess Diana and her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, have more than 100 American ancestors, many of whom settled in New England in the early days of the pioneers. Another of Princess Diana's ancestors was Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll, who attacked and invaded Scotland in support of Monmouth's rebellion in 1685. He was beheaded for his trouble.
The book was published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death in a car crash in a tunnel in Paris.
